What do you like best?
It's easy and all-in-one. I use this with a completely volunteer run organization that I'm a part of outside of my day job, and by using something like Wild Apricot we can mitigate the need for a half dozen separate systems that probably don't talk to each other easily, and do it all under one umbrella. We're a very small group and we don't need our IT needs occupying our time that's better spent elsewhere. Wild Apricot simply takes care of everything we need for our website, membership, events, online store, and much more. It's all in one place, it's relatively affordable, and it just eliminates the hassle for us.
What do you dislike?
Although it does a lot, it does it all "well" but not "amazing". It's UI and features are miles behind other cheap or even free/open source alternatives. It's a bit of a clunky and dated interface, and even things like the blog capabilities of it don't come anywhere near what other blogging platforms, even simple ones, have to offer. They recently raised the price on the platform, but in my opinion they need to look at what competitors in each space are doing and make those areas of their platform better represent what the market is doing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great platform for time and/or resource strapped organizations, but with a little patience or willingness to have separate platforms, you can get stronger individual platforms in each area (at the expense of more time needed to manage each, and/or more cash needed for separate subscriptions). Hopefully they strengthen up in the weak areas sooner rather than later.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
We are solving the need to have our website, membership database, mailing list, online store, event registration, and blog EASILY taken care of in a very small not for profit that simply doesn't have the time or resources for managing many different IT systems if we tried to do each of those with separate systems.
I started using wildapricot about three years ago for a nonprofit organization that I am the webmaster for. At first it was a great value for the amount of money I was paying for the product. However in the past two years the price has jumped up exponentially with no real new functions that are of use to me or my organization. The first price jump I understood, but when they announced another rise in price not six months later with nothing new to justify the price I was really annoyed. Needless to say I will be looking for another service to use. I would say that the service is good out way overpriced for a small organization like mine.
I needed to call about a declined payment from my bank. I had contacted the bank and due to fraud measures and you being out of the country they had declined payment. They told me they would relax those procedures if the payment went through that day. Otherwise it would be declined again. I called Wild Apricot and spoke to a woman who told me that there was nothing she could do and I needed to email. I told her that I had already emailed but the email states it could take 24 to 48 hours for a response and the payment had to go through that day. She again told me that she couldn't do anything to help me and I said in an irritated manner "you mean I am spending over 500 dollars on software and you can't......." and she hung up on me. I called back and at this point I was ripped, the second person I spoke to was very nice even with my irritation at this point and he called the billing department for me and they put the payment through immediately, it cleared and was all set. I thanked her for her help and she was going to pass along what had happened. This software is expensive, the prices are ridiculous for what we need. You raised your prices to the point that my board is giving me a hard time about the software and the additions that you added were not things that we need, use or want. Then to have someone hang up on me when I call to make that payment is honestly maddening and really makes me rethink the value of the software and whether there are other programs that would work for us and not charge as much.
Very difficult to use
these guys are a rip off - they want your money and will bend over backwards to get it. Once paid they slam the door - I had to leave and get a site built from scratch just to escape and get my business running properly
