What do you like best?
Easy to use for beginners. It could be potentially useful for new startups without the budget for a designer.
What do you dislike?
The lack of cross-platform compatibility with Adobe products and lack of advanced features makes it impractical for anything beyond simple compositions.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is fine to start out with if you want a cheap introductory vector program, but not ultimately practical for agency or long term use.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
I've had far more problems with Sketch than anything else - I receive lots of files from people who have hired designers and used sketch, and the logos & files tend to be imprecise and annoying to convert to more universal formats.
What do you like best?
What I like best about Sketch is that it gives me the ability to work with other designers in a vector based format who don’t have access to or work with the Adobe suite. Its simplified format allows to-the-point designs and an ability to translate pretty well into .svg style files.
What do you dislike?
The main thing I dislike in Sketch is that it’s not conducive to mass exporting items in a .svg format. I’m not sure if it is just that I don’t know how to use the program to its fullest potential (although a fairly detailed google search didn’t give me any new information, but I could only export one item at a time to get the .svg file to work without corrupting. It would be nice to have a way to seamlessly export files.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
My main recommendation is that Sketch is great if you have need for a simple, inexpensive program to create vector graphics.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
The main business problem that I am solving with sketch is for PC users to create and transfer their vector graphics to me. When they use Sketch, I can use their files without having to create anything new from scratch.
What do you like best?
The price is right and it runs faster than Illustrator. Importing files is simple.
What do you dislike?
To be fair, more recent versions may be improved. However, using it 2014-present I've run into loads of bugs with this program. For some reason, certain files will have features just not working at all and it slows the workflow to a crawl. I have to be very Zen about it. The results look good at the end of the day if you make it through.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
I use Sketch for UI and graphic design. Its the main program I use for this because of the affordable price and speed. The quality is probably improved in the recent update so you get a good product with clean typography.
What do you like best?
I like how easy it is for people to use that might not have a design background or know design software very well
What do you dislike?
I feel like I can do the same things with the adobe suite
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
I created a few wireframe with it
What do you like best?
I like to be able to assign styles to text, shapes, etc and have them all change at once.
it feels fairly lightweight and fast
quite a lot of flexibility, can export to different sizes
mostly it has helped me do things quicker.
What do you dislike?
I dont like the selection model. in illustrator, if i select a group of objects, i can move all of them easily. In sketch, I have to constantly check the "click-through when selecting" if i need to select one element, and sometimes i need to select them all, i have to uncheck it.
also, if i draw two lines, and they are 90 degrees from each other, sketch makes a bounding box out of it, illustrator does that too, but illustrator only selects the line when i actually click on the line stroke. in sketch if i click anywhere in the bounding box, it selects the line. this is hugely problematic for me because sometimes i need to get into deeper layers, and the big bounding box covers a lot of it. this is a big problem especially when I', making user flows with lots of lines eveywhere. this is where i still use illustrator because I can create lines with angles like a user flow, but not have its huge bounding box prevent me from selecting other things
Sometimes, I want a most- top layer on top to show tap interaction and where it leads, from one screen to another, but it keeps getting swallowed by the layer im putting it on top of.
it would also be nice to see the export slices list be ordered alphabetically so i can index things
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
I create UI screens, as many as 50 or more. Sketch has helped me do it much more quickly.
