Grasshopper doesn't reimburse customers for it's overcharges in service. They have not built this company on financial integrity and good customer service. They overcharge small business owners month after month and when notified they will only give credit for services the customer is not pleased with. If you were considering, don't partner with them if you need proper billing. They have extremely poor customer service.

This company will not let us port our phone number from their service to our new service. They've been rejecting the request since February, citing the address as incorrect, even though the address is correct. We even got this rejection message when we used the random address they have listed on our CSR, which is convoluted in and of itself to say the least. Not only are we having this ongoing issue still in April, but when I called on a conference call with our new phone service provider to get the CSR, the "customer support" representative was extremely rude to me; to the point where my colleagues even said something about it. If you are an entrepreneur or small business owner looking for an inexpensive phone system option, do yourself a favor and look somewhere else, as this company will make your life hell when your business grows, and it's time upgrade your phone system.

PROS & CONS

What are the best aspects of this product?

Can email me when a call comes in and/or a voice mail has been left

What aspects are problematic or could work better?

1) There is a delay in voice transmission between caller and recipient that often causes both parties to start talking at the same time, then stop, then start - very annoying.
2) When a caller selects an extension, the set up software has a setting for the number of rings you want that caller to hear before an answer, but Grasshopper has a predetermined number of about 15 rings that is REQUIRED, even though the set up appears to allow for less - customer support is aware and states that Grasshopper "feels" it is best to have at least their predetermined number of rings . . . so many are required that I have many clients hang up rather than wait for an answer :(
3) the desktop app and the mobile app are completely different, not only in layout and how they work, but in content . . . calls, voicemails, texts, and faxes all handled differently if at all, by each app.
4) old texts can not be deleted, so the inventory of texts just continues to grow and becomes cumbersome to scroll through over time
5) a text from someone who has never texted comes through into the "in box" just fine, but if for anyone with whom you have previously texted and categorized that exchange as "Done", any fresh texts from them do not go into the "in box" so they go unnoticed until you go looking for them in the Done file (where they do rise to the top since they appear in chronological order, fortunately, or you would never find them.)
6) the mobile app does not 'auto-refresh' so unless you constantly sign out and then sign back in, you miss alot of new calls, voicemails, texts, and faxes . . .
7) often, text transmissions take several hours to transmit

What features/services would you like to see in future versions of this product?

Fix all of the above!

What specific problems in your company were solved by this product?

Many problems in my company have been CAUSED by this product . . . I alerted customer service about all of this . . . they seemed unpleasantly surprised but never got back to me with any solutions.

Are you a current user of this product?

Yes

Grasshopper started out okay. Then I noticed my bill nearly doubled in one month! I called in to investigate and they said I had foreign overage charges, doubling my bill! I asked about it and said they could see that I had not dialed out international, but instead spammers from outside the U.S. are calling me and leaving messages with nothing in them, resulting in overage charges. They agreed to refund the charges "this time." I asked what I could do to avoid it in the future. They said to send them a list of countries where the spam calls had originated, so I asked them for the list of countries (which they list on your invoice) and sent them the list, which they said they would block on their end. I got a confirmation email that said "We have blocked the area codes for the places in the list that you gave us." Well, here's January, and I got charged for overage charges, again doubling my bill, FROM THE EXACT SAME COUNTRIES! I contacted customer service again (a painful experience, if you can even find the number to contact them at!) and walked through the whole process again. This rep said they couldn't block countries! The rep said I had to send them a list of every area code in the world that I wanted blocked and they would block it on their end. I told them I already did this for the countries that I had spam calls from, but she didn't know what to say. This time, they said they can't do anything, but upgrade it to a level two issue. I got a response from them today that says the only thing they can think of it to change my phone number! I don't know if this is a scam by grasshopper (for all I know they're placing all of those calls to double my bill) but the calls came from Antigua, Dominican Republic, Turks and Caicos, and other countries in that area. If other 800 number services can block those, they should be able to as well. I've also filed a claim with the government and am considering legal action to get my money back, since they told me they had blocked those countries, but then continue to bill me for them.
